Guidelines

  1. We don’t deal in absolutes.
    1. Personal Mythology is a highly subjective matter. No thing means the same thing to everyone. Therefor we use many qualifying words and phrases such as: could symbolize, might mean, often is seen as. We don’t tell, we guide.
  2. All personal myths are true.
    1. If something is a personal myth then it is believed by its holder and therefor true. In other words personal myths do not occupy the realm of fact and fiction but rather what is ‘true for you’.
  3. All things have meaning.
    1. Some are very individual while others are worldwide. A scribbled on napkin can mean the world to a single person and nothing to others, while the sun means many things to everyone. But if a thing is perceived it has meaning.

Symbolism & Mythology

Were mostly looking for personal meanings and a little bit of what the topic is, but not it’s history. For example: it’s good to explain that the phoenix is a bird engulfed in flame that rebirths itself from ashes and therefor could symbolize transformation and renewal. But it’s not necessarily good to expand on paragraphs of its origins, though we may eventually dive deeper into histories in the future.

Use the header for ideas on what to write. For instance symbolism, meaning, mythology are good topics. Dreams are actually slightly less of a good topic as they are even far more subjective than the other topics. The word is included in the header mostly for SEO purposes.

Metaphors are very nice to include as they are not only poetic and interesting but almost always reveal the meanings of topics.

When speaking of Gods, especially the Biblical one, they are referred to as “a, that, this, or the” God. For example: In the case of the Bible the great flood reminded people to not disobey this God’s commands, but also gave them hope that the God would one day fix things. We do this because it is not our place to judge the validity of any Gods and therefor no God can be referred to as the only one.

Stories and Folklore

If you can get references, great, but if not, don’t stress about this area for now.

Do 5 or more. Try to stay broad. Relating the crow to bird, flying, or intelligence is better than relating it to another specific bird like a parrot.
